AN573 - Belarus 2007 20Ru Alice Through The Looking Glass Fairy Tale Silver UNC
| |
The Belarus Mint continues their "Fairy Tales" series in 2007 with the Through The Looking Glass themed coin. Each year since 2005 the Mint has been issuing two coins that commemorate a particular fairy tale throughout history. Past years have seen the likes of "1001 Nights", "12 Months" & "Snow Queen" immortalized in silver. This year is the first where both coins commemorate the same author, with the other 2007 release commemorating Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland.
The reverse shows a portrait of Alice on the left-hand side, with her hand extending out to the right. This is a mirror image of the Alice's Adventures In Wonderland coin. Within the main central portion of the coin is a chess board with a number of pieces on it. The White Knight sits upon his horse on the right-hand side of the coin, facing Alice's portrait. Around the top left rim of the coin are various characters from the book, including Tweedledum and Tweedledee. In a semi circle around the bottom right of the coin is the title "Through The Looking Glass" in Russian characters. It's interesting to note that the title on this coin, like the portrait of Alice, are in mirror image form when compared to the other Alice's Adventures in Wonderland coin - despite the words themselves being different. At the top of the coin is an egg-shaped matte amber zircon gemstone.
The obverse of the coin is the standard for the series, with only the year of issue being different. It portrays two young children sitting upon a crescent moon reading from an open book that sits upon their laps. Above the children is the emblem for the Republic of Belarus. Below them is the year of issue, 2007. In a semi circle around the top half are the words for the Republic of Belarus in Russian characters. In a semi-circle around the bottom of the coin are the words for Twenty Rubles.
Each coins comes in a protective capsule with a Certificate of Authenticity.
