AO072 - Hungary 2007 50HUF Treaty Of Rome UNC

As one of the "10 new EU nations", Hungary has joined in numismatically in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome with this 50 forint base metal circulation coin.

Although a total of 2 million were struck for circulation, the blisterpacked versions number only 12,000. Each blister pack is numbered and bears the following background text.

"The first step towards the development of the European Union was the foundation of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951. To intensify their integration, its founding members - Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Italy and West Germany - signed the Treaty of Rome, establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) on March 25th, 1957. The purpose of the EEC-Treaty was to establish an overall economic intergration among the six founding members, based on the "four freedoms": freedom of movement of goods, service, capital and people, through a common market and customs union."
