AP594 - Belarus 2008 20Ru Turandot Fairy Tale Silver UNC

This is the ninth coin issued as part of the "Fairy tales of the peoples of the world" series by the National Bank of Belarus. Each of the silver coins issued in this series are dedicated to a different fairy tale throughout history, from various parts of the world. Previous releases have seen the likes of The Little Prince, The Snow Queen, Alice in Wonderland and A Thousand and one night, immortalised in silver. This particular coin is in honor of the story of Turandot, taken from the Persian collection of stories entitled "The Book of One Thousand and One Days". It tells the story of Turandot, who has three riddles for any man who wishes to marry her. Failure to correctly answer the three wishes results in the beheading of the suitor. On the reverse is an image of the Princess Turandot. Behind her is a number of stylised images including a curtain, the earth and tree of life, the Lion of Adria to the left and the palace to the right. At the top of the coin is the inscription "Turandot" with a bright orange zircon crystal forming the 'o'. The obverse is standard for coins in the fairy tale series and shows two children surrounded by stars sitting on a crescent moon reading. Above them is the coat of arms for the Republic of Belarus. The top inscription reads: "РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ" (REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), while the bottom one is the denomination: "ДВАЦЦАЦЬ РУБЛЁЎ" (TWENTY ROUBLES). Each coin is encapsulated and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
