AQ125 - Belarus 2005 20Ru Little Prince Fairy Tale Silver UNC
| |
Struck by the Polish Mint for Belarus, this coin is the 2nd in a series of silver coins paying tribute to various Fairy Tales throughout the world. Offered here in antiqued silver, this release commemorates the story of The Little Prince. Published in 1943, The Little Prince is one of the most endearing and enduring children’s tales in modern literature. It is also the most famous work by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who was also a French Aviator while writing books. The Little Prince tells the story of the central character, the Prince, who lives on an asteroid and looks after it. He sets off and visits other planets and finds people living on them who are each foolish in their own way. After visiting 6 planets he arrives on Earth where he walks through the desert and meets a snake, leaves the desert and meets a fox, whom he tames. The story is known for being ostensibly a children’s book, but he carries many adult ideas about life and human nature.
The reverse shows the fox looking out over fields on a starry sky. To his left is the rose that the Little Prince falls in love with, while to the right is the well that he and the Narrator of the book find while dying of thirst in the desert. The sky contains symbols that make up the lopsided face of the Little Prince. To the left is an embedded crystal which represents the eye, with an eyebrow above. To the left there is a slit which is the nose and further is a large star which is the mouth. Around the top of the coin is the inscription "МАЛЕНЬКІ ПРЫНЦ" (THE LITTLE PRINCE). The obverse is common to all the coins issued in this series and shows a boy and a girl sitting on a crescent moon reading an open book of fairy tales beneath a starry sky. Above their heads is the State Emblem of Belarus, with the inscription "РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ" (REPUBLIC OF BELARUS) on either side. Below the children is the year of issue and the inscription for the face value, "ДВАЦЦАЦЬ РУБЛЁЎ" (TWENTY ROUBLES).
The coin's surface has been oxidised to give an "antiqued" appearance". Each coin is encapsulated and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.
